A beautifully produced vintage Soviet book exploring the beginnings of the Russian revolutionary movement through the life of Peter Zaporozhets.

Zapev (Запев) by Sergey Zaplavny is a historical-biographical narrative about Peter Zaporozhets, one of the organizers of the St. Petersburg League of Struggle for the Emancipation of the Working Class.

The story places Zaporozhets alongside figures including Vladimir Lenin, Nadezhda Krupskaya and other early Russian Social Democrats, tracing the young revolutionaries at the beginning of their political activity.

Published by Politizdat in Moscow in 1987, the book belongs to the Soviet “Fiery Revolutionaries” (Пламенные революционеры) biographical series. Library records catalogue this edition at approximately 395 pages.

Beyond its historical subject, the book is an attractive example of late-Soviet book design. It features a textured cloth binding with black graphic artwork and gold lettering, illustrated endpapers, and striking full-page color illustrations.
