This vintage edition of Shota Rustaveli’s Le Chevalier à la peau de tigre presents one of the foundational works of Georgian literature in an elegant French translation.

Published in Tbilisi in 1966, the volume contains Serge Tsouladzé’s translation from Georgian, accompanied by an introduction and notes. The edition is illustrated by Sergo Kobouladze, one of the most celebrated Georgian graphic artists of the twentieth century.

The restrained cloth binding, dramatic red typography and finely rendered monochrome illustrations give the volume a distinctive mid-century Georgian aesthetic.

The Knight in the Panther’s Skin originated in medieval Georgia and has become the best-known literary work associated with Shota Rustaveli. Its themes of friendship, loyalty, love, courage and chivalry have helped make it an enduring part of Georgian cultural identity.

This edition is suitable both as a collectible book and as an attractive historical object for a private library or interior.
